The presence of wasps is a common problem. These insects pose a great danger to many people, because in about 10 000 people, they are not in a state of 2005. 20 population have allergic reactions caused by the sting. Even for people who are not sensitive, this can pose a serious health risk. Os do not need to be specifically provoked to move quickly into attack. They react to many irritants, including m.in. grilled meat, which lures them with the smell of blood.
These insects are often confused with bees, by their, at first glance, similar appearance. Bees, however, have a more hairy and stocky body. They are smaller than wasps, despite the fact that nature has equipped them with a basket to collect nectar from flowers. Bees are mostly calm, so they attack only clearly provoked. They do not pose such a danger as wasps, because immediately after a possible sting they die, while wasps do not even lose their sting.
What does a wasp look like?
A characteristic feature of these insects is their black-yellow coloration. For common wasps, the body length of workers is from 10 to 14 millimeters, queens – from 16 to 18 millimeters, and males – from 13 to 15 millimeters.
The bodies of wasps are covered with a lot of small hairs. These insects have a narrow abdomen at the root, ending with a sting placed in the most moving part of it. Thanks to this, wasps can move the sting in all directions.
They also have quite large mandibles, allowing you to cut hard food. They also use them to crush small fragments of wood, from which they later build their nests.
How is the wasps nest formed?
The whole process is closely related to the queen’s individual. Immediately after the spring awakening, he flies out to find a convenient place to build a nest. The most suitable for her are always nooks and crannies, that is, m.in. burrows in the ground, tree hollows and even crevices and holes in the house itself or its roof.
The wasps nest resembles an irregularly shaped body, made of paper. In fact, however, it consists of several patches, in which there are breeding chambers. It is there that larvae develop.
How dangerous is a wasp sting?
The sting of the wasp is primarily painful. After a while, swelling and redness of the skin may appear. In allergic people there is a very high probability of anaphylactic shock.
In theory, people who are not allergic can endure up to fifteen simultaneous stings. Severe intoxication is manifested only after three hundred. However, everything often depends on the place where the sting is inserted. Especially dangerous are the area around the neck, because the esophagus of the stung person is able to quickly swell and lead to even death as a result of suffocation.
So how to fight wasps?
The basic premise is simple – do not irritate wasps if it is not necessary. It should be remembered that for these insects, the luring factor is mainly a sweet smell. Especially careful you need when drinking colorful carbonated drinks or eating any sweets. It is also worth taking care of the tightness of any waste containers.
However, it is not worth giving up plans to spend a perfect summer evening, solely because of annoying insects. An excellent solution is therefore to set a few traps for wasps, whose task will be to tempt insects and distract them from other snacks. It is worth choosing to fill the traps with natural plant juices, so as not to expose yourself to harmful chemicals.
However, if the above method does not bring the expected results, it is recommended to use an aerosol preparation. Although it is not an organic product, it has several other important advantages. First of all, it can be used both indoors and outdoors. The aerosol preparation also eliminates the nests of insects and prevents the hatching of subsequent individuals.
In the fight against intrusive wasps, safety is paramount. Choose a way that is simply more appropriate in your situation. Stings of these insects are especially dangerous for humans, therefore, in extreme cases it is worth contacting the appropriate services that will eliminate the problem of the presence of wasps.
